Jeanine Freeman joined the Foundation Board in 2004 and currently serves as its president. She is a native Iowan, raised in Sioux City and a graduate of Heelan High School, Briar Cliff University (a Dubuque Franciscan college in Sioux City), and the University of Iowa College of Law. She is Senior Vice President of Legal Affairs for the Iowa Medical Society, a voluntary statewide membership association for physicians. A member of St. Catherine Drake Newman since 1975, she counts her parish community and its Franciscan-like values as one of her life’s greatest blessings. ST. CATHERINE OF SIENA FOUNDATION BOARD
2008 Objectives
Amended and Adopted by Board Consensus June 1, 2008
“People say, what is the sense of our small effort? They cannot see that we must lay one brick at a time.” Dorothy Day
1. To fulfill our fiduciary responsibilities consistent with our Bylaws and other Board policies. 2. To receive and review grant proposals for the 2009 program year as well as requests for discretionary funding; to award grants and discretionary funds as appropriate; to make recommendations (if any) for changes in our grant and discretionary funding processes, procedures and criteria; and to receive reports on grants and discretionary funds previously awarded.
3. To finalize details for a St. Catherine Foundation scholarship in memory of Maddie Leavitt, to be first awarded in the 2009-10 academic school year.
4. To consider a Foundation-based initiative – i.e., a lecture, a retreat, a forum, a reading session – for our Parish and the broader faith community.
5. To develop a plan for effective financial development/planned giving strategies to guide the Board in the next 12-18 months.
6. To discern and remain faithful to our unique role as a parish-based foundation consistent with principles of Catholic social justice teaching.
7. To initiate and engage in Foundation outreach activities to the Parish, including serving a student supper, sponsoring the Diocesan Wills Seminar in October, placement of Foundation announcements in the Bulletin, distribution of the Annual Report, maintenance of the Web site, and other initiatives identified from time-to-time.
8. To identify new candidates for Board membership and to strengthen alliances as appropriate with the Pastoral Council, the ministry team, and other parish-based service and activity sectors.

ST. CATHERINE OF SIENA FOUNDATION BOARD
Annual Meeting March 8, 2009
Agenda
1. Opening reflection
My heart ached. Had I lost everyone I’d ever loved? I closed my eyes and prayed for God to show me a sign that He was with me. He was the only One I had left, the One I could trust. … The pastor opened the door and, without saying a word, handed me the Bible I’d asked for earlier. I opened it immediately and looked down at Psalm 91: This I declare, that He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I am trusting Him. For He rescues you from every trap and protects you from the fatal plague. He will shield you with His wings! They will shelter you. His faithful promises are your armor. Now you don’t need to be afraid of the dark any more, nor fear the dangers of the day; nor dread the plagues of darkness, nor disasters in the morning. Excerpt from Left to Tell by Immaculee Ilibagiza, the story of her survival of the Rwandan genocide and her path to forgiveness. 2. Approval of Minutes (December 7, 2008)
